Medical Assisting

This program is designed to prepare students for employment as medical assistants SOC 31-9092. It offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Health Science career. This program consists of 1300 hours and is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of five occupational completion points (OCPs).

Program Structure: This program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of four occupational completion points. The recommended sequence allows students to complete specified portions of the program for employment or to remain for advanced training.  A student who completes the applicable competencies at any occupational completion point may either continue with the training program or terminate as an occupational completer. When offered at the postsecondary adult career and technical level, this program is comprised of courses which have been assigned course numbers in the SCNS (Statewide Course Numbering System) in accordance with Section 1007.24 (1), F.S.  Career and Technical credit shall be awarded to the student on a transcript in accordance with Section 1001.44(3)(b), F.S.

  • In order to be a full program completer, students must complete all OCPs and score a   minimum of 10.0 in math, reading and language, on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
  • Admission Policy: Students must be 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in another Miami-Dade County Public School. Students must score a minimum of 7.0 on the TABE.
  • Refund Policy: Before start of class – full tuition refund. Within first 14 days – 50% tuition refund. After 14 days – no refund
